All the right ingredients, but what's the recipe for Swedish Success?
by Kirsten Bound
I'm not talking meatballs.
World class achievements in innovation, legendary investment in people and a thriving export industry aren't enough to ensure Sweden's sutainable success, prosperity and global competitiveness. Although Sweden enjoyed the fourth highest GDP per capita in the 1970's, it has since slipped down to 17th place in the global rankings.
Healthy conditions for innovation aren't translating into proportionate rates of entrepreneurial activity. But why?
Tom and I travelled to Are in Northern Sweden on Monday to present our conclusions to a packed conference called "Back to the top" organised by the Confederation of Swedish Enterprise.
We think the cocktail needed to unlock sustainable Swedish success in the knowledge economy is embodied in the idea of 'enterprise democracy'.
