The BBC has announced that it is definitely going ahead with the Creative Archive project, which is great news. Larry Lessig will be on the panel advising them and (like Demos) they're going to base access to content on the Creative Commons licence. It's a brave and brilliant move - so congratulations to all involved!

Does that mean I can print out lots of highbrow Panorama episodes and not watch them either?

Thats great news, really very exciting. They are going to have some really tricky legal problems to surmount, but if anyone can push this forward the BBC can. And of course, what a great justification for the licence fee. The question is how much will be made available and how soon? Its perhaps not a surprising move, as Mark Thompson, then still with Channel 4 obviously, introduced Lawrence Lessig at this years Oxford Media Conference and made it very clear that he was personally in favour of a UK Creative Commons initiative to drive forward innovation and creativity in the broadcasting sector. Well done to the BBC.
