Mapping science in China is of interest not only to us, but to the Chinese as well. We've talked to one of the 2 organisations here which works on bibliometrics - The Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of China (ISTIC). Last year, when they published their rankings of Chinese universities, over 1,000 people attended the press conference. There is clearly a lot of interest locally in exactly what quality of work is being done in universities, and how it can be measured.

We missed seeing both George Bush and Arnold Schwarzenegger, but one thing I can guarantee about their trip: I'm sure they were stuck in traffic.
