Best think tank website? I just want to thank my mum...

Posted by Molly Webb at 9:15am on Thursday, 21st September 2006
It's not everyday geeks (I speak for myself) and wonks take over The Savile Club in Mayfair. But last night, champagne was flowing for the annual Prospect Magazine think tank of the year awards.

To use a word from my home country, I was very 'psyched' to take home the best think tank website award for Demos. Our friends at social software consultancy Headshift have worked with us to build a site that puts participation, transparency and engagement theories into practice. We just launched in June, so I'm looking forward to a lot more exciting and challenging work. It's only the beginning...

Having missed out on the whole sport-related trophy thing in school (geek), I was thrilled last night to hold an award that appears to be the head of Socrates and have the chance to publicly thank my supportive and creative colleagues.

And yes, I did thank my mum, who actually was in the audience...

Well done to Molly and the rest of the team! It's been fantastic working with you all and a real pleasure to develop a system that actually places social media, transparency and debate at the front and centre of an organisation's activities -  not just a tokenistic 'blog'  managed by the PR department! All the best for the future.

As you can see from the photograph (I am the one next to Molly) one of my tasks last night (in addition to getting Molly on-stage to receive the award) was to bask in her wonderful smile all evening which definitley lit up the whole room (full as it was with people who generally hadn't won anything!).

We are really proud of what Molly has done so far with the website even in these early days of it's life; there is much more to come as we integrate the site more and more into the way in which we work in Demos. Get involved. There has never been a better time.

Oh, and we are very happy to offer advice and support to other organisations who want to make progress on the design of their web presence along with our friends and partners at Headshift who are absolutely brilliant people to work with.

Hey! Wow! Congratulations that's really good news. That's a real vote of confidence in the approach and some serious support. It was great working on it and it should fire y'all into a new age of transparent processes and trust building.
