I've been reading some fascinating papers by the Hull Floods Project. The project is funded by the ESRC, EPSRC and the Environment Agency, and is a response to the events of June 2007 in Hull which dramatically exposed the vulnerability of urban communities in the face of major flood event.

What makes the papers so interesting is the methodology used by the researchers. Unlike large scale surveys or one of interviews, the project involves a tried and tested diary based methodology. Some of the diary entries are incredibly moving. Definitely worth reading.
