I've just read an
interesting piece about the pschological aspects of resilience in the immediate aftermath of terrorist attacks. The article, in the NEJM (New England Journal of Medicine), suggests that resorting to post-trauma counselling too quickly can actually be counter-productive for victims. As it highlights, invoking London 7/7, the public tend to have an in-built toughness and composure in response to such shocks. This kind of innate reflex resilience is certainly something to think about.
