The publication tries to bring to life some of the issues confronting the next generation and make the case for politicians to take the long view; considering the needs of the next generation when taking key decisions about issues such as the budget deficit, climate change and paying for social care. The scale of the challenges confronting young people demonstrates that if there was ever a moment when a 'new politics' was called for, then this is it.

At the launch we invited the audience 'inside the report'. Some of the statistics from v's original youth attitudes project 'voicebox' (which kick-started Anatomy of Youth) were displayed in the entrance hall. The gallery walls were covered in notes and materials from the research process and some choice examples of Britain's longstanding obsession with defining 'youth'. People were invited to listen to recordings of the youth portraits from the book and meet the original interviewees. Perhaps somewhat unusually for a research launch, there was a queue outside the gallery to get in. We were especially pleased that v invited young people to read the report and blog live from the event.
