I'm over in New Zealand at the moment getting ready to launch our new report. It's called 'Re-imagining government', and it's trying to contribute to the debate over what the next 15 years of public service reform should look like.We think the key is more democracy - engaging people much more in designing and delivering their services - and we've got some ideas about how to get there. One of the things that's been interesting about developing the report, and the discussions we've had so far about the finished product, is the sense that many of the public management challenges facing New Zealand are far from unique. A lot of them are shared by the UK and a host of other countries. So perhaps this is one of those moments when international public management trends start to go off in a different direction. But what direction is that? Our report definitely doesn't have all of the answers, but I hope it at least asks some of the right questions. It's going to be really interesting to see whether they resonate back at home as well.My favourite Kiwi journalist Colin James did a preview of some of the recommendations earlier in the week - it should be available at his website before too long: http://www.colinjames.co.nz/
