In his first major speech following the publication of the Welfare Reform White Paper, Douglas Alexander, Shadow Work & Pensions Secretary, gave his reaction and discuss the implications of the Government’s new proposals.
The event explored the outlook for employment in the UK over the next five years, and tackled the following questions: will the proposed reforms really make a difference? How do we combat the risk of long-term unemployment while tackling low pay, job insecurity and poor quality work? Where will new jobs come from?
The Government’s proposed Work Programme is central to its approach to employment policy. The event examined the emerging thinking on this model and assess how it can meet the challenges in the years ahead.
