Taking Drugs Seriously argues that the Misuse of Drugs Act – 40 years old this month – is unfit to keep pace with the 21st century drugs market and the emergence of 'legal highs'. However, making improvements to drugs policy has been difficult because of the polarised and emotional nature of the debate. The report argues for a new approach to drugs policy based on consensus, as demonstrated through two innovative 'systems' workshops we conducted with a range of stakeholders.
This invitation-only panel event will feature contributions from Baroness Oona King, Lord John Maples, Tom Brake MPand will be chaired by columnist Jenni Russell.
