Making Good Work
12 Jul
Realising the Values of Young People’s Creative Production
- Date and time:
- Thursday, 12th July 2007 at 1:30pm
- Location:
- The National Glass Centre, Liberty Way, Sunderland, SR6 0GL
Demos is holding an event to mark a new publication about young people's creativity, by Sam Jones and Shelagh Wright, produced in collaboration with Creative Partnerships and participating schools, teachers and pupils from the Durham Sunderland region.
Estelle Morris will be joined by pupils from Broadway Junior School, Bexhill Primary School, and Peases West Primary School
Recently much attention has been paid to creativity in education, reflecting wider concern with creativity in general. The Creative Industries are a hugely successful part of our economy and ministers have pledged to ‘make Britain the world’s creative hub’. The challenge is how that is to be achieved, and what skills young people will need to make good work in a creative future.
This pamphlet argues that young people will need the capacity to link creativity and meaning in their own terms and in ways that allow them to match products to purpose and audience. Conventional ways of looking at young people’s work are no longer enough. As creativity becomes central to learning, the workplace and social lives alike, young people will need the skills to navigate between different expectations of their creative work and forge their own sense of creative value.
You can download the publication in PDF format at www.demos.co.uk/makinggoodwork.
If you would like to join us for what is sure to be a lively event, please RSVP to makinggoodwork@demos.co.uk or 0207 367 6340.
