Demos is delighted to host a panel debate and reception marking the launch of Resilient Places, a new Demos report on the role of heritage and infrastructure in creating local and community resilience.
There has been huge variation in how different places and communities across the country have experienced the recent recession, and how they have fared. Resilient Places explores the role of the UK's industrial heritage networks such as railways and waterways in helping to build resilience to adversity; and asks how our historic infrastructure can best be adapted to communities' current and future needs.
At the launch, David Aaronovitch, columnist for The Times and author of Paddling to Jerusalem: An aquatic tour of our small country; Fiona Reynolds, Director-General of the National Trust; Katherine Clarke, Artist Partner at muf architecture/art and report authors Samuel Jones and Melissa Mean will debate these issues, followed by a half-hour audience Q&A chaired by Demos' Director Richard Reeves. A short drinks reception will conclude the event.
