National Security for the Twenty-first Century

10 Dec

Launching a new Demos pamphlet

Date and time:
Monday, 10th December 2007 at 12:15pm
Location:
The Commonwealth Club, 25 Northumberland Avenue, London WC2N 5AP

Demos will be launching a new pamphlet, National Security for the Twenty-first Century, on 10th December 2007 with

Nick Clegg
MP Liberal Democrats Shadow Home Secretary,
and Sir David Omand, Visiting Professor, King’s College London and former Security and Intelligence Coordinator, Cabinet Office.

The report argues that while the UK government continues to muddle through on issues of national security, the present and future security environment demands a more integrated and strategic approach.

Written by Charlie Edwards, it marks the culmination of a twelve month research project, supported by the Cabinet Office, G4S Global Risks and Thales. It sets out a new approach to national security and suggests some radical and innovative ideas through which to shape the future of the national security architecture.

We are delighted to be joined by our speakers to debate this agenda and the ideas in the report. Nick Clegg will give a key-note speech, followed by responses from Sir David Omand. This will be followed by a Q&A session with the audience.

If you would like to attend the event and join the debate, please email daniel.lavenda@demos.co.uk, or call 0207 367 4200.

Arrival is at 12:15 for a 12:30 start. A light lunch will be provided.
