Working laterally

Posted by Paul Miller at 11:43am on Thursday, 27th November 2003

There's something new growing in the Greenhouse. As a bit of an experiment we've set up a discussion board for the new publication Working Laterally by Demos Associate, David Hargreaves. It's adapted from Education Epidemic, also written by David Hargreaves and published in conjunction with the Department for Education and Skills Innovation Unit.

Coming soon - blogs and email lists for particular Demos projects. Watch this space.

Without having seen the revised version yet I think the title's really effective. It captures the concept of the network (lateral transfer) and idea that the content of the publication provides a way of working round old problems. Inspired!

I've seen the revised version and it works really well. The plans are that it will go to every school with unlimited opportunity for them to draw down more. So, the really interesting thing will be to see how many heads, teachers and others engage via the web log, either in response to the questions or to engage in debate. Can we refashion it together through online dialogue? Will teachers prove resistant to the attractions of online debate? Will the complexities of your technology confound us all?
