Big issues need a big conversation

2:45pm Tuesday, 6th January 2004

Recently Demos received a letter from the Prime Minister, himself, asking for our help. He launched a conversation with the British people about the challenges Britain faces and how together we can meet them. Is this something Demos should get involved in?

Hmmm, I sense a little tongue-in-cheek irony in this posting. But here's my two-penn'orth... Quite a lot of blogging types are alreay deep in conversations and Tony Blair would be more than welcome to join in any of mine. I'm don't think it's for him, having shown little interest in conversation before, to set himself up as the host of a "big" conversation now. And that "big" word strikes me as a bit presumptuous and grandiose. Also, I understand that his big conversation is time-limited... again, not terribly appealing to me. I'm sure Demos will do as it pleases...but I know I'm not planning to join Tony's salon!
