Nick Clarke RIP

Posted by Charlie Tims at 2:46pm on Thursday, 23rd November 2006

Nick Clarke, presenter of Radio 4's World at One has lost his battle with cancer.

Alongside the lunchtime edition of Neighbours and getting muddy in the garden, the World at One was the backdrop to my school holidays. My awareness that there was more to the world than school and my sisters was almost exclusively piped through the voice of Nick Clarke during his "40 minutes of news and comment" on my Mum's Roberts radio. While many of his contemporaries pandered to yah-boo journalism, Nick Clarke had a unique way of calmly dealing with issues that was both informative and measured. During lonely school holidays, protracted periods of unemployment and sick days at home, listening to him felt like a hug. You can read a tribute here
