Internships

Demos recruits interns on a rolling basis throughout the year.  We would love to hear from you. Details on how to apply are below.

Demos runs an internship programme that seeks to provide successful candidates with the invaluable experience of working in an exciting and challenging think tank environment. Interns will have the opportunity to engage in a wide variety of Demos' activities.

Demos interns come from all over - from London to overseas, during their gap year or after their PhD, in between a career direction change or straight out of university. Demos benefits enormously from the diversity of background and knowledge in our interns.

We have between ten and twenty interns at any one time, working alongside twenty-three members of staff. Our interns form an integral part of the Demos network. Generally there are about ten research interns, one or two media/communications interns, one audio/video intern and one events intern.

Interns work with Demos staff in our open plan offices at London Bridge. Interns also often get the opportunity to attend external meetings and travel to conduct field work. Interns often manage Demos events and launches held in various locations in London and are encouraged to attend external events in the area.

Why

Demos's internship programme is integral and essential to our running. We depend on our interns not just to keep the office running smoothly but to contribute in a meaningful way to our projects through quality research, analysis, and ideas generation.

To ensure that interns are getting as much from us as we get from them, Demos participated in the drafting of the Interns Network's Good Practice Guidelines for Ethical Internships. We aim to translate these guidelines into practice and follow an Ethical Internship Policy.

You can find more information on the Interns Network and its activities at www.internsnetwork.org.uk.

 Applying

We are always on the look out for bright, motivated, and creative individuals to intern with us at Demos. We accept applications continuously although we manage recruitment by holding several Intern Recruitment Workshops throughout the year. We occassionally run individual interview rounds for specific project-related internship placements when necessary.

Internships will usually last for two or three months. Most internships are full-time (Monday-Friday, 10am-6pm) but hours can be flexible and we also offer part-time internships (with the exception of communications internship). Whether you apply for a full-time or part-time internship will not affect your chances of selection.

If you are keen to work hard and learn in a stimulating and fun environment with like-minded people please send your CV, a covering letter and our equal opportunities form to:

internships@demos.co.uk (research internship)

commsinternships@demos.co.uk (media internship)

Don't forget to tell us why you want to come to Demos and  the period you are available, whether you prefer a part-time or full-time internship and which project area you are interested in.  All candidates should be interested in current affairs and social policy.

If shortlisted, we will contact you to arrange an interview. We regret that due to the large number of applications we receive only shortlisted candidates will receive feedback.

Internships are unpaid and voluntary, however we can help by paying travel and lunch expenses up to a maximum of £15 per day.
