Andrew Mackenzie, formerly Group Vice President, BP Petrochemicals, joined Rio Tinto in August 2004 as Chief Executive Industrial Minerals. Industrial Minerals includes titanium dioxide feedstock, borates, talc, potash, salt, gypsum and several other minerals.

Dr. Mackenzie has a BSc (Geology) and a PhD (Chemistry).  He spent three years on post doctoral research into oil and gas exploration before joining BP in 1982 in research and development.  Dr Mackenzie spent 22 years with BP primarily in the UK and North America in senior positions in oil and gas exploration, production, chemicals and plastics.  Previous posts include Head of Capital Markets in BP Finance, Head of Government and Public Affairs worldwide, Chief Technology Officer which included responsibility for R&D and Engineering and Chief Reservoir Engineer where he oversaw oil and gas reserves and production.
