Anwar Akhtar will work with DEMOS on issues including the creative economy and the creative sector and the 2012 games and also issues around cultural identity and leadership within both British Muslim communities and internationally.
He is Chief Executive for CIDA, the Cultural Industries Development Agency based in East London (www.cida.co.uk). He spent ten years working as a DJ and Club promoter in the North of England and works closely with Manchester URBED, www.urbed.coop a leading independent design and regeneration practice
Anwar was previously Director of Rich Mix a new arts and cultural centre East London, Senior Officer in the Culture Team at the Greater London Authority, Projects Officer for Arts Council England and Director for The Republic Club in Sheffield. Anwar spent ten years working as a DJ and club promoter. He was a fellow on the clore leadership programme in 2004/5.
