Samuel Jones is a researcher at Demos. His research interests include culture and the arts, museums and galleries, creativity and the communication of ideas and knowledge through the cultural sector. In particular, he is interested in cross-cultural communications and the role of culture in international relations. In other work, he has focused on Global English and conversations. Recently, he has undertaken research in both the US and China.

The DCMS have recently launched a consultation document, asking 'what property should we be seeking to protect in the event of armed conflict?'
As well as being an important move towards protecting our heritage, this also raises the intriguing question of what we want the future to think of us. Looked at this way, culture's role as a medium becomes very clear, an idea we're currently exploring in other contexts.
Meanwhile, Jonathan Glancey, for one, is pretty clear on what he'd like to see saved...
