Tom Bentley
Policy Adviser, Government of Victoria
Tom Bentley will be Executive Director for policy and cabinet for the Premier of Victoria, Australia from September 2006. He was Director of Demos from 1999-2006.
at 12:04pm on Thursday, 1st April 2004
In a joint declaration dated April 1 2004, Demos Director Tom Bentley today signed an historic and unprecedented cooperation agreement with twelve of the Asia Pacific region's leading policy institutes and intellectuals. The agreement will trigger a multilateral, multidirectional, network based exchange of conference anecdotes and restaurant recommendations, facilitated by a series of global 'hubs' based in Qantas lounges across South East Asia. The unique new partnership will begin by investigating a series of public policy questions to which answers are urgently needed across the world, including:
- the effects of airmiles on neural processes
- the mode of production underlying the creation of 'just in time' policy advice and its analogy with the airline catering industry
- international policy symposiums: why bother when you have email?
- what to buy your three-year-old when you have 23 minutes spare before you get back on the plane
Commenting on the formalisation of this historic accord, Bentley said "What's the answer? Ask Peter Mandelson." as he leaped from a moving taxi, finalising his 8th presentation of the week to an as-yet unknown audience.
A special Demos collection based on the experiences of world leading practitioners in this area will be published on dvd in June.
