The effect of the recession has been to catapult the economy, and associated issues of fairness, to the top of people's concerns. There could not be a better time to think again about the type of economy British people want to see, and how we can shape that economy to solve the everyday issues that people and communities think are important. Our Political Economy programme examines what a progressive economy looks like, and how it feels to be living and working within it.

Our research informs the policy development of all political parties as they seek to put forward policies to restructure the economy following the financial crisis.

With public awareness of economic issues at an all time high we examine the type of economy that people want to see, and investigate the policy conclusions that flow from that.

This will consider both structural issues, such as the role of the financial services sector, how to realise the potential of the creative industries, and how policy on innovation can encourage growth in a time of restrictive budgets, as well as well as cross cutting issues such as economic fairness and progression and whether a simple measure of GDP is the best way to capture economic progress.
