- The Cultural Age Online and in the streets we encounter a more diverse range of cultures than ever before. Culture is a space in which values are expressed and interpretated. In partnership with the AHRC, Demos is hosting two seminars to investigate how policy-makers can link up with academics to think about what this means, and how the understanding of complex cultural issues can be brought into different policy areas. These are the cultures of which we are all a part, and our world is one of many cultures. The problem is that there is a real lack in our skills to read other cultures. One result is that our newspapers, media and websites carry numeorus stories about hostility between people, breeding a cycle of fear, insecurity and ultimately violence and prejudice. - Cultural Diplomacy (past) Following the recent public diplomacy review, now seems like a good time to revisit what we mean by cultural diplomacy and the ways in which culture helps to deliver Britain’s foreign, developmental, and sustainability objectives. This project asks what this means for cultural institutions and whether they could play a role in fostering public debate and engagement.
