The Public Value of Security
Joining Forces
Governments across the globe have been overwhelmed by the growth and complexity of threats to society and the UK Government has been no exception. In the past six years government departments and agencies have had to deal with foot and mouth disease, terrorism, the threat of pandemics, serious and organised crime and more recently the affects of severe weather. In the UK this has led to a reappraisal of how individual departments respond to threats with the emphasis on a more joined up approach from across government as well as the business community. However it is becoming increasingly apparent that the security architecture designed to face the more ‘traditional’ threats to states is preventing much of the good work from happening, and, in some cases, exacerbating the problems further.
Over 12 months this project aims to review the UK's security architecture through the lens of strategic public value.
