Despite our concern over the social and economic costs of poor parenting and failed relationships, we invest only tiny sums in services and policies designed to improve people’s relationship and parenting skills. Ed Straw argues for a national programme of investment in education and support for relationships and parenting which would aim over the long term to prevent many of the costs associated with the breakdown of relationships.
