- Office Composting - The Reality We've had our Bokashi Composter in the office for almost a fortnight now, and (whilst not wanting to tempt fate) I've been very impressed with the results. It takes nearly all types of food waste (though admittedly this office only seems to produce coffee grinds and tea bags, with the odd citrus rind thrown in when staff feel their vitamin intake is lacking) - but most importantly, doesn't smell. We have to drain liquid off it using its nifty little tap every few days, but even that is of... from : alisonharvie 21st August 2006
- Our Carbon Footprint As promised a while back on the Greening Up Demos page of the website, we've attempted to work out how many tonnes of CO2 our flights in 2006 will produce. from : alisonharvie 7th August 2006
- In the bag This is a smart idea of from Tesco - people will be able to earn loyalty points for every old plastic bag they bring back and use in their stores. It looks like one of those win-win ideas: it works for the environment, adds to Tesco's green credentials, and encourages people to return to shop there. from : duncanoleary 4th August 2006
- Low-carbon economy needs new regulatory approach Ofgem should make ‘public value’ main goal rather than focusing on post-privatisation issues of price and efficiency, says new Demos report from : mollywebb 2nd August 2006
- Friday rant: cars If we're going to stop global warming and reduce congestion, then we need our children to grow up to view the world in a more sustainable way. Unfortunately, Disney doesn't seem to see it that way. I can only imagine that their new film, Cars, was developed with hefty sponsorship from Shell, BP and the international right wing conspiracy for carbon-overload apocalypse.Through the simple devices of pinching the plot of Doc Hollywood and adding in some talking gas guzzlers, Disney has... from : simonparker 28th July 2006
- Hot air? It didn’t make the front pages (as far as I know) but I think David Miliband’s speech yesterday floating the idea of carbon rationing for individuals is going to be an interesting one to watch... from : duncanoleary 20th July 2006
- Bokshai Composting Bins Bokshai bins would seem to be the answer to indoor, non-smelly composting. We're hoping to buy one of these and trial it in the office. from : alisonharvie 20th July 2006
- Recyclebank I’ve just come across what looks like a brilliant recycling scheme in the US. It’s called RecycleBank and it works like this:1. Each house gets a recycling container with a barcode on it, that allows the recycling truck to identify what your household in recycling 2. The amount your home recycles is translated into RecycleBank Dollars (paid for by the council through the savings they make on landfill sites) 3. You can spend your RecycleBank dollars at any of the 100 participating... from : duncanoleary 11th July 2006
- Going... going... green Demos is going zero carbon, zero waste. We'll be looking for interesting carbon offsets initiatives, and will try and convince our landlord to let us have a roof garden. A bit more newsworthy perhaps, but today, one of London's largest hedge fund managers Man Group announced it is going carbon neutral. HSBC announced their plan to go carbon neutral in 2004.Last year, in a move supported by most environmental groups, Goldman Sachs went even further and started advocating for environmental... from : mollywebb 5th June 2006
