Hobbes Vs. Kant???
An interesting article about the war by David Held, is available at open democracy, here. Held argues that war on Iraq is counterproductive to both the war on terror and wider US security goals. This article is particularly interesting as one of few I've seen moving anti-war arguments to the 'higher' levels of international relations.

Decisive Force?
I stumbled upon an interesting report, written in the US in 1967, which has recently been declassified at the request of American research institute The Nautilus Project. The report weighs up the possible consequences of a US decision to use tactical nuclear weapons in Vietnam, though it also looks in passing at the possibilites of the same weapons being used by terrorists.Proof that Freedom of Information bills can turn up some pretty scary documents...Read the report here.

Cooper Vs. Kagan
The debate centred on definitions of hard and soft power but never really broke free of definitions and dichotomies. Hard power is military power. US to punish German 'treachery'
America is to punish Germany for leading international opposition to a war against Iraq. The US will withdraw all its troops and bases from there and end military and industrial co-operation between the two countries - moves that could cost the Germans billions of euros. Click here for article.

Politicians do pop
It's not just Tony and David reliving their youth. Bill Clinton is getting in on the act too, using a speech at the beginning of a Stones concert to raise awareness about climate change, saying "The new energy future is decentralised, entrepreneurial and needs people like you to say 'Give me a clean car, give me solar shingles to put on my roof - give me a clean future'".

Tom's article on immigration
Tightening border controls may actually decrease national security by encouraging illegal people trafficking, says Demos director Tom Bentley in an essay published by openDemocracy. The report on our major project on mass migration to Europe will be published in March.Read the full article.
