'Consult on ID cards or scrap plan'
Research by the think-tank Demos warns that people are losing control of their personal data and calls on the Government to act to ensure greater protection.
Its report, which is based on nine months of research, also calls for Labour's ID cards policy to be scrapped unless the public are properly consulted.
And the think-tank suggests banks could have an insurance-type "no-claims" bonus for people who successfully protect their own identity from fraudsters.

'Open ID card debate to British public or scrap scheme,' think-tank tells PM
Peter Bradwell, who wrote the report, said: "We found that the people rushing to share their information through Facebook, club cards and Oyster cards when in London, were the very same people who were worried about data protection and disconnected from the way the private sector and the state make use of their information.

Do you know what they know about you?
Ms Gallagher and colleague Peter Bradwell will release their report in early December.
"Pretty much every organisation you engage with day-to-day - from clicking your Oyster card to ordering your take away - means sharing personal information."
That sharing of data, she said, has become entwined with modern life and it was a mistake to think that sharing information so often only has a downside.

Crossing the 'e's
Yesterday the Prime Minister announced various anti-terrorism measures, including updates on the 'e-borders' program. There's a comment, about the speech and approach generally, from Timothy Garton-Ash here. I thought it was worth mentioning the e-borders news, especially in the light of our upcoming pamphlet on personal information.
